Dr Laura Barbagallo

Dr Laura Barbagallo joined our practice in February 2006, bringing with her credentials of the highest standard. She is originally from Innisfail in North Queensland. Dr Barbagallo completed her Bachelor of dental Science Degree with First Class Honours at the University of Queensland. She then spent several years of general dental practice in the Royal Australian Air Force and in private practice in England.

Laura completed her Masters of Dental Science Degree in Orthodontics with Honours at the University of Sydney. She has also become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, in Orthodontics. When graduating from her Masters Degree, Laura was awarded the Wrigley's Post-graduate Prize for the best overall academic and clinical performance of all the Master of Dental Science students at the University of Sydney in 2005. She also received the Young Investigator Award, presenting her Masters Thesis at the Biological Mechanisms Conference in Phuket, Thailand. In April 2006 Dr Barbagallo was awarded the Elsdon Storey First Research Prize from the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) for the best research thesis of all the 2005 orthodontic graduates throughout Australia. In March 2008 Laura won the Milton R Sims Award from the ASO. This award is bestowed on the most meritorious student in Australia who has completed an Orthodontic Masters programme from 2005 to 2007. The decision was based upon Laura's outstanding clinical ability, university achievements and published university research. Laura's research has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Feb 2008 and the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, Dec 2007.

Dr Laura Barbagallo is registered as a specialist orthodontist with the Dental Board of Queensland. She is also Board Certified by the Australian Orthodontic Board. Dr Barbagallo has memberships with the Australian Dental Association, the Australian Society of Orthodontists, the Australian Society of Lingual Orthodontists, the Invisalign Study Group and the Australian/New Zealand Damon Study Club. Dr Barbagallo also regularly attends national and international conferences to keep up-to-date with new orthodontic developments. As with Dr Lalieu, Dr Barbagallo has a particular interest in lingual ("invisible") orthodontic treatment and Invisalign appliance treatment.

Laura's other interests include Tae Kwon Do, adventure racing/orienteering, wind-surfing and sailing. She is married to Matt, who is an aeronautical engineer, working at RAAF Base Amberley with F-111s and Hornets.
