Orthodontics is primarily the practice of straightening
crooked and overcrowded teeth and/or aligning the jaws
and the bite of upper to lower teeth. The objective
of orthodontic treatment is thus twofold - firstly, to improve the
appearance of the teeth and hence the smile (which
has great benefits for a person's self-confidence) and secondly,
to improve the bite, which may help minimise the risks of problems
occurring later in life (eg. wear of the teeth, functional problems
and jaw joint problems). Crooked and overcrowded teeth are also
more difficult to keep clean and to keep free from
tooth decay. Orthodontic treatment for patients with some "missing"
teeth and jaw size problems is also possible.
There is no age limit to having orthodontic treatment
- we provide a specialised range of orthodontic services for Children,
Teenagers and Adults. No referral is required for
an initial consultation, which is necessary to determine the problem
with your teeth, and formulate an appropriate, individualised orthodontic
treatment to solve these problems. There are a variety of ways to
treat specific orthodontic problems, depending on the problem itself.
These range from simple treatment (often using
"plates") to more complex treatment, often involving
fixed appliances ("braces"). The fees for treatment thus depend
on the complexity of the problem, which is often also related to
the duration of treatment. Without a thorough examination of the
patient, it's not possible to identify your treatment needs and
the cost for this treatment.
