Dr Victor Lalieu
Although Dr Lalieu's surname originates from France, he was born in South Africa. He graduated as a Dentist at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1981, and was joint recipient of the Dental Association of South Africa's Bronze Medal awarded to the best student in operative dentistry. After working for two and a half years as a general dentist, he commenced a three year full-time post-graduate degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, and graduated with a Master of Dentistry (Orthodontics) degree in 1986. During this time, he was twice awarded the Henry Bradlow Scholarship for academic excellence. In addition, Dr Lalieu won the Colgate Palmolive Prize of the International Association of Dental Research (I.A.D.R.) South Africa branch. The award allowed Dr Lalieu to present his research paper on Functional Orthodontic Appliances at the 1987 I.A.D.R. International Conference in Chicago, U.S.A.
In 1987, Dr Lalieu and his wife, Alison (a Physiotherapist), immigrated
to Brisbane. They have four children (three girls, and then finally
a son !) When not in the office, Dr Lalieu plays golf and tennis
(Dr Lalieu represented his State at tennis as a junior, with his
State winning the South African Inter-State Trophy that year), He
enjoys supporting his beloved Reds and Wallaby rugby union teams
(yes, he's changed allegiance!), as well as the Broncos, Lions and
Roar teams. He loves cooking (and eating!), but most of all, he
enjoys spending time with his family.
Dr Lalieu is registered as a Specialist Orthodontist with the Dental
Board of Queensland. In addition, Dr Lalieu is Board Certified by
the Australian Orthodontic Board. He is a member of the Australian
Dental Association, the Dental Association of South Africa, the
Australian Society of Orthodontists, the International Federation
of Orthodontists, the Queensland Orthodontic Study Group, the Australian
Society of Lingual Orthodontists, the Australian and New Zealand
Society of Paediatric Dentistry, the Australian Damon Study Group
and the Fauchard Dental Study Group. Dr Lalieu is the visiting specialist
/ orthodontic consultant for the Royal Australian Airforce at its
base in Amberley. Dr Lalieu is committed to continuing education,
and regularly attends both national and international conferences
to keep up with the latest developments in orthodontics.
